a rather tina type person

I am completely and utterly fascinated with what makes people tick and how they interact in relationships.

I have often toyed with the idea of getting into counseling at some point in my life and actually went through a counseling course not much out of highschool. ideally David and I would counsel people and couples together as a ministry. who knows, maybe when we are old and wise =) we’re already Dave Ramsey Certified Financial Counselors, so there’s something…

loving all the why’s behind everything we do, I find it super helpful to nail down as much info about myself and those around me as I can get them to sit still and divulge for me. I’m a little bit of a quiz junkie. here are the results of some of the tests I’ve taken for myself. (you likely won’t care unless you are a personality junkie, too, in which case you might just want to go back and read other possibly interesting tidbits about me – though you’d be missing out, in my opinion =)

Custom Keirsey Temperament Report for: tina
(this really is so, SO me)

Your Keirsey Temperament Sorter Results indicates that your personality type is that of the
Rational

Rationals are the problem solving temperament, particularly if the problem has to do with the many complex systems that make up the world around us. Rationals might tackle problems in organic systems such as plants and animals, or in mechanical systems such as railroads and computers, or in social systems such as families and companies and governments. But whatever systems fire their curiosity, Rationals will analyze them to understand how they work, so they can figure out how to make them work better.

In working with problems, Rationals try to find solutions that have application in the real world, but they are even more interested in the abstract concepts involved, the fundamental principles or natural laws that underlie the particular case. And they are completely pragmatic about their ways and means of achieving their ends. Rationals don’t care about being politically correct. (hahaha, NOPE!) They are interested in the most efficient solutions possible, and will listen to anyone who has something useful to teach them, while disregarding any authority or customary procedure that wastes time and resources. (yes, I really, really will!)

Rationals have an insatiable hunger to accomplish their goals and will work tirelessly on any project they have set their mind to. (much to David’s chagrin, since he often is part of my projects… but in all honesty, we each have our own stuff, and I rely on him greatly to help me stay on task for stuff I don’t want to do) They are rigorously logical and fiercely independent in their thinking — are indeed skeptical of all ideas, even their own — and they believe they can overcome any obstacle with their will power. Often they are seen as cold and distant, but this is really the absorbed concentration they give to whatever problem they’re working on. (I can’t tell you how helpful this little tidbit is! I’ve often, over the years, been confused about why I have been told at various points that people felt I was this way, and now it all makes sense! it’s super true…) Whether designing a skyscraper or an experiment, developing a theory or a prototype technology, building an aircraft, a corporation, or a strategic alliance, Rationals value intelligence, in themselves and others, and they pride themselves on the ingenuity they bring to their problem solving. (I kind of do =)

Rationals are very scarce, comprising as little as 7 to 10 percent of the population. (woot!) But because of their drive to unlock the secrets of nature, and to develop new technologies, they have done much to shape our world.

Rationals at Work
As a Rational, you seek to acquire and apply expertise. You thrive in an autonomous and intellectually stimulating workplace, working alongside other competent people, pursuing knowledge or creating systems. Your core need to follow the driving force of your own intelligence leads to particular career challenges. For example, recognition of your expertise may lead to your being put “in charge” of other people, as a manager, when you might prefer to remain immersed in projects of your own.

You are fascinated with developing strategic plans for others to use. In your preferred environment, you work behind the scenes while someone else takes the active leadership role. Often, you are driven to step in as leader when you become impatient with the way a project is going. In your ideal job, you independently analyze systems and make recommendations about how objectives will best be reached; someone else does the work of delegating work, motivating people, or enforcing work duties. You want challenge in your work and become frustrated when asked to merely follow routines, especially if those routines are inefficient. (yep. yep. and yep. whole last paragraph.)

[go check out your own test right over here! hurry, it's crazy fun!]

I’ve taken many a personality test and I always wonder if I messed up the answers, but when you get the same results at different points in your life, well… what can you say? my personality type results fly a bit in the face of my temperament since as a Rational I’m not supposed to really be feeling oriented, but the truth is, I really am.
I shall attribute that to Jesus =)

Profile: ENFJ
Revision: 3.0
Date of Revision: 23 Feb 2005

ENFJs are the benevolent ‘pedagogues’ of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. (one can hope! =) Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it’s usually not meant as manipulation — ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.

ENFJs are global learners. They see the big picture. The ENFJs focus is expansive. Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects simultaneously. Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability. (I gel with this)

ENFJs are, by definition, Js, with whom we associate organization and decisiveness. But they don’t resemble the SJs or even the NTJs in organization of the environment nor occasional recalcitrance. ENFJs are organized in the arena of interpersonal affairs. Their offices may or may not be cluttered (it is), but their conclusions (reached through feelings) about people and motives are drawn much more quickly and are more resilient than those of their NFP counterparts.

ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general), they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of others. (this just seems normal to me) They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people. ENFJs often take on more of the burdens of others than they can bear.

TRADEMARK: “The first shall be last”

This refers to the open-door policy of ENFJs. One ENFJ colleague always welcomes me into his office regardless of his own circumstances. If another person comes to the door, he allows them to interrupt our conversation with their need. While discussing that need, the phone rings and he stops to answer it. Others drop in with a ‘quick question.’ I finally get up, go to my office and use the call waiting feature on the telephone. When he hangs up, I have his undivided attention! (I would have to say I don’t really do this… because it really, really drives me crazy.)

Functional Analysis:

Extraverted Feeling

Extraverted Feeling rules the ENFJ’s psyche. In the sway of this rational function, these folks are predisposed to closure in matters pertaining to people, and especially on behalf of their beloved. As extraverts, their contacts are wide ranging. Face-to-face relationships are intense, personable and warm, though they may be so infrequently achieved that intimate friendships are rare. (unfortunately this is probably the case – I can and am happy to be friends with almost anyone, and adore relating with people, I just don’t feel like I can prioritize it much at this point in my life)

Introverted iNtuition

Like their INFJ cousins, ENFJs are blessed through introverted intuition with clarity of perception in the inner, unconscious world. Dominant Feeling prefers to find the silver lining in even the most beggarly perceptions of those in their expanding circle of friends and, of course, in themselves. In less balanced individuals, such mitigation of the unseemly eventually undermines the ENFJ’s integrity and frequently their good name. In healthier individuals, deft use of this awareness of the inner needs and desires of others enables this astute type to win friends, influence people, and avoid compromising entanglements. (thankfully I’m healthy AND have real integrity, so… =)

The dynamic nature of their intuition moves ENFJs from one project to another with the assurance that the next one will be perfect, or much more nearly so than the last. ENFJs are continually looking for newer and better solutions to benefit their extensive family, staff, or organization.ENFJs are continually looking for newer and better solutions to benefit their extensive family, staff, or organization. (yep!)

Extraverted Sensing

Sensing is extraverted. ENFJs can manage details, particularly those necessary to implement the prevailing vision. These data have, however, a magical flexible quality. Something to be bought can be had for a song; the same something is invaluable when it’s time to sell. (We are not certain, but we suspect that such is the influence of the primary function.) This wavering of sensory perception is made possible by the weaker and less mature status with which the tertiary is endowed. (I must confess, I’m not entirely sure what this means.)

Introverted Thinking

Introverted Thinking is least apparent and most enigmatic in this type. In fact, it often appears only when summoned by Feeling. At times only in jest, but in earnest if need be, Thinking entertains as logical only those conclusions which support Feeling’s values. Other scenarios can be shown invalid or at best significantly inferior. Such “Thinking in the service of Feeling” has the appearance of logic, but somehow it never quite adds up. (what is funny in this case is that I’m so Rational that I often can’t even have a decent cry because I’m talking myself around the issue… so no, this paragraph isn’t really me)

Introverted Thinking is frequently the focus of the spiritual quest of ENFJs. David’s lengthiest psalm, 119, pays it homage. “Law,” “precept,” “commandment,” “statute:” these essences of inner thinking are the mysteries of Deity for which this great Feeler’s soul searched. (again, not totally sure of this meaning, but it just so happens I am an internal processor, for whatever that is worth.)

apparently Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, and Barack Obama all share this personality type with me, as well as interesting people like Michael Jordan, Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller, Matthew McConaughey, Ben Afleck, and John Cusak. I’m pretty happy with my company.
Oprah is also an ENFJ, but I don’t claim her…

David is my Tribesman meaning we

share a sense of culture, but with different interests and abilities

read about his personality over here

I also took a tiny, short psych test over here on which I got a 49 out of 64, which tells me

Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who’s constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate and understanding; someone who’ll always cheer them up and help them out.

(who knows, but I wouldn’t mind if this were true… I do always aspire to cheer and help others, which, incidentally, makes this last photo super cheeseball. score!)
