Sometimes it’s good to look back and remember stuff! It’s especially fun if you have a good sense of humor. Here’s a little Blast from the Past for your (or really, MY) enjoyment:

ok, we are really going to be posting more from the present, but in the middle of working on other stuff I keep running into funny stuff from the past, and this just happens to kinda fit with the whole traveling thing from the past week, no? yes. my 27 year old thoughts on airport security, take it away! (not to be confused with the below picture from the trip we just took)

from a post titled “If I don’t stop this thing, we’re going to hit something!

Speaking of traveling, that brings us to airport security. Now I’m really “for” airport security. In theory. I seriously don’t ever want to be on a plane that gets hijacked. But I’m really not so sure about how safe it is, as opposed to just making some people feel better. Case in point, my grandma could have very easily taken over a plane a couple of weeks ago. Ok, maybe not her so much, but she definitely could have been an accomplice. She recently flew from Cedar Rapids to Atlanta and back. By my understanding, they didn’t notice the knife in her purse until the return flight, and she went through multiple checkpoints even in Atlanta.

I know, I know, my grandma doesn’t really seem the type to carry a knife, but apparently if you have a favorite paring knife you should keep it with you for all of your paring emergencies. That is, unless you happen to fly somewhere, because then they will eventually find it and take it away from you. And then you will not have your favorite paring knife anymore, and you just might cry.

I can commiserate with her just a bit. I used to have a fingernail clipper that I had with me at all times. (I have a lot of hangnail emergencies.) One day they decided fingernail clippers were very dangerous, but I forgot. So they took it away from me. I was very mad. I did not cry. But I did make sure to check what kind of clipper it was. And then I got another one. I wish the airport had bought it for me, but then I guess they would have to raise ticket prices some more. Anyway, I still always carry a fingernail clipper with me, but when I fly I remember to stick it in my checked bags. It’s usually one of the first things I get out when I arrive at my destination because I most definitely picked at my nails on the long, boring flight.

yes, watch out for those pesky ticket prices and strangeish regulations! but oddly, the breakfast we procured from McDonalds on the way here was surprisingly normal-priced from what I could tell. (I just went over our finances from the past week, which I plan to begin posting weekly *I think* so you can follow along on our little journey and have an idea of how to get on here in beautiful Costa Rica. :) so stay tuned for some full financial disclosure. I know you’re on the edge of your seat. finances do that to me, too.
