when pyrex explodes…

I have a feeling we’ll be finding glass chunks for weeks to come…

might be a little weird, but one of the main things I was looking forward to moving from the apartment where we spent our first 6.5 years, was getting a flat-top stove. I am the WORST about cleaning the burners of regular stoves. I just get so frustrated at the extra step or five! (if you bother to read about my personality at all, you’ll know efficiency is a rather big deal to me)

so David and my dad even rewired the outlet or something to enable the awesome flat-top we got off of craigslist ($100 =) to work in the stove hole at our trailer last summer and I’ve been very thankfully enjoying it ever since. when we got it, though, I was *pretty* sure we should make a rule to not EVER put anything on top of it, like no matter how tempted we were to pretend it was extra counter space to just say NO. some people think “rules” are more like suggestions, however.

yeah. I’m just not so good at remembering which burner I am turning on… and this is what happens to a very naive pyrex container of bread pudding caught in the wrong place at the wrong time whilst a confused teapot waits patiently by.

does it seem a little hazy to you?

alas and alack

soooo I guess that won't be part of supper.

this place about to bloooow

oh little pyrex how we will miss you!

the aftermath: when sizzling shards of glass attack innocent little girl socks...

my hero. who also shall share the *tiniest* bit of blame =)

of course we immediately opened all the windows and one of the doors in the front part of our house and set the fan on high to reduce our inhalation of toxic fumes as quickly as possible. it was positively acrid. and then it was positively freezing…

and then David set to work cleaning it all up for me. because he is awesome and manly like that! :)

earlier today my mom took Maeve to see an abbreviated version of The Nutcracker, during which time I took Maverick to the library and had to get back to our car rather quickly before the meter ran out. so I let him “drive” till it was time to pick them up. he’s got his smile face down pat and he manages to look like a little Amish boy here.

you know you’re an OCD blogger when…

  1. you keep procrastinating on posting because it drives you so bonkers that your blog is still so far from how you want it to be set up and look but you can’t justify getting your husband to fix it for you when he needs to be working on other business sites… argh. it kinda sucks that I am soooo very dependent on him to be smart, lol. thankfully, he is!
  2. you get up at… 4:30am because you accidentally start thinking about post ideas and couldn’t go back to sleep. may as well write it down, otherwise you’ll forget it anyway. I thought of probably no less than 5 things I wanted to write about yesterday while running errands and who knows what they were because I didn’t have a trusty notebook along to throw them down on paper.
  3. you have trouble deciding which posts to do because you don’t want to “waste” a potentially “good” post when no one is reading yet… kinda like how you get annoyed if you wear a “good” outfit on the wrong day. americans have it so rough.
  4. you really want to start participating in blogs that you enjoy, but you don’t want people to potentially go look at your blog until you have it set up the way you want… because then they likely wouldn’t want to stay. and you want to woo them in with awesomeness.
  5. you start going over in your head the best way to later word how a situation is going down while you’re still living the situation. ha. ha. ha. who does that?!
  6. you google “blog post formatting for dummies” because it annoys the crap out of you that you’re so stupid at making your posts look nice. and you’re jealous of all the cool blogs. and it turns out someone just knew I would come along. nevermind, upon reading through it, that was for too dumb of dummies. apparently I am a step above a dummy. I don’t think it would help to google “blog post formatting for kind of dummies”. ok, it’s not that I don’t “technically” know how to format this stuff, I just somehow suck at it. I think I have a mind block. I shall get better! UPDATE: I figured out what was going on to nullify my attempts at formatting, so I’m experimenting!
  7. you really want to go back through all your old blog posts and format them to look nicer… but wow, that would take a lot of work. but argh, it is super annoying to know that there are all those posts out there looking so raw…

there ya have it. I’m a little OCB. and thankfully I naturally came up with 7 reasons for it. cuz 5 would have been too few and if I had 8 I would have had to think of 2 more. because numbers matter… quit while you’re ahead.

trying to find a way to take a pic in which my glasses don't glare like crazy. oh well.

oh time…

where the flippity do you go?! time sped up a bit after getting married, but after having kids… it just started tripping over itself running away from us. I definitely now have no trouble understanding the concept of a thousand years being like a day to God…! I mean, he obviously has just a FEW more things to deal with than I do =)

I wish… so. wish. that I would write every day. Even after giving myself the turning-30-pass I find myself faced with deadlines I don’t feel I can afford to push off. We are doing a soft launch of the Beauty of One this coming weekend I guess. It isn’t a “real” launch because everything is not lined up and prepared the way it is supposed to be… I have gotten so. much. better. over the years at picking and choosing what is really important to have “right” (growing up in the world of business I had the right/proper/best/professional way of doing things ingrained in me, I think much more than I realized) and it takes me stepping back and looking at the situation from all angles and running scenarios in my head. Anyway, we just figure it won’t hurt to have a tiny bit of presence coinciding with the new layout of the coffee shop and the Fall Festival happening this weekend. I am just sad it can’t be even very close at all to “right” =)

Speaking of OCDness… I really don’t think I am, but I have little touches of it in some ways I guess… there is the thing with numbers – ideally numbers should end in 5 or 0. Second best is 8 or 2, followed by 7 or 3. but 6, 9, or 1??? really?! no. It’s just not right. Then there is this thing with pen caps… if pens have writing on them, please put the caps on to line up with the writing. Imagine my frustration with the (nice!) (FREE) (REfillable) Sharpies we recently were bequeathed with by Blick (one of my former employers, as a side note, but completely unrelated to the freeness of the Sharpies) when I immediately noticed they had managed to print the Blick logo/info the exact OPPOSITE direction of the Sharpie logo. oh gracious. That will annoy me every time I use it.

The real reason I’m talking about OCD, however, is in relation to cleaning. I have high standards. I mean, truly. But you would not know that if you came to visit us. I HATE clutter, I HATE mess. I mean it really grates on me… UNLESS I just tune it out. and do other things. which I have to do. all the time. When we have cleaned something satisfactorily we really can keep it clean, but when we’ve been on a trip or are in the middle of tight deadlines, things degrade to a very scary state. and I just have to let it be ok because I simply can’t allow it to stress me out. I have to really break it down into very small bits in order to ever get back into a good place. That or David has to start, which inspires me, or we have to have company coming and a good reason to kick into high gear. There are always a m.i.l.l.i.o.n. more important things for me to be doing than cleaning! because I don’t feel like I can justify taking the time to keep it how I want it to be. BUT I am very good at cleaning up after meals and myself and such =) My long term plan for this is to pay someone else to do it for me… yes, I wish, lol.

Back to the happenings this weekend… that would be the reason our house is currently in a livable, but grossish state right now, as well as the reason why I have not taken time to blog in almost 2 weeks. Deadlines, people. and I just realized out loud to David this past week that we are already on the downhill train to the holidays and it’s not going to slow down until next year… REALLY?! that sucks. September-December every year for the past… 5? 6? has been capital C crazygonuts. If it’s not one thing it is another, truly. Costa Rica in January 2012, anyone?

demonstrating the proper way to cap a writing utensil… nicely lined up with the printing

(sigh) I’ve missed this whole writing thing…

Isn’t it ironic????

So I was discussing the Financial “bail out” with Jeffrey and he made me aware of this i guess … comical/distressing little fact about this bill that passed the Senate last week…

I find it  rather amazing  that during this time of crisis when everyone’s nerves are on edge , when people are losing their retirements , when AIG employees are having a jolly ole time using our tax dollars to buy a “nice quaint little get away pat in the back session”,oh and did i mention the Market is tanking, that we have our elected officials thinking about toys . Gee!!! i’m glad i wont have to pay more for Maeve’s toy arrows!!!
