ok , i’ll write one …
familySo ya I thought it was high time to write somethin’ … there… ha ha. Anyways, just finished “Blue like Jazz” and thought it was highly intriguing. I absolutely love the way he writes, I think he’s very nonchalant, and earthy umm… I like …
I think the content was also very interesting It gave a very clear view of the movement he is part of . I think I was building up to Miller , maybe I’ll try Mclaren next and who knows maybe after that I’ll write my own book about denying the reality of sin or something . Ok that was a low punch I know, but I had to throw it in for my dear friend Bryan Neusch, and maybe for Kirk. Ok now for the real review …
I was extremely impressed he was honest and gritty to the bone. I have to admire a man that hangs his humanity out there in such a fashion. He is open and real in that sense the book is pretty awesome. He was definitely burned by the established church , and he lets his readers know in no uncertain terms , but truth be told I don’t think he speaks against it . His words are more an encouragement to move towards the essence of Christianity. I liked the challenge that reading this book placed on my life , so I’m gonna recommend it … I recommend “Blue Like Jazz” by Don Miller . There it’s recommended by me now, BTW this is David writing …
On another note I tried to make my kitchen a swimming pool, but it didn’t work. When I wash Maeve’s diapers you plug the thing into the faucet and hook the “outgoing” hose on the side of the sink so all the “poopy” (not really) water goes down the drain. Long-story-short: vibrations, hose on floor, 3 buckets, one towel.
This afternoon it was Maeve and Daddy time. So we hung out … I took pictures of her, she drooled on me, I played guitar, she swatted little hanging toys. The coolest thing was when she farted, and I being the inexperienced baby noise interpreter thought she had done her “thing ,but it was a false alarm. So I changed her anyways, and she was fussy so I made those stupid sounding noises that daddy’s make to appease the wrath of our children, well it worked!!! She started giggling and waving her arms and legs at a million miles per hour and then she said “igloo”. That was sooo cool, it made me laugh a lot. Ok I know it was circumstantial and truth be told it was more like “gigigloo” so I guess it won’t be the first one in her vocabulary . Maybe we shouldn’t be giving her shaved ice for her aching gums … well gotta go its getting kinda weird.
Signing off … David

A glorious post indeed. I was especially pleased with the low punch thing. It made me chuckle. I read “Blue Like Jazz” at the end of January and I stayed up past my bed time just to get through it. A very simple read, but very penetrating with his faith-on-his-sleeve approach. I liked it as well. The next book I would recommend, David, is The Challenge of Jesus by N.T. Wright. It’s not terribly well-known, but still excellent. As I was wrestling with the relevance of Christianity in postmodernity, I came across this book and it was extremely helpful and encouraging. I’m reading through the Torah again – specifically Leviticus – and this is the first time I’m really intrigued by it and I want to study it more. Fascinating. Catch ya later…
I have heard a lot about this book but still have not read it. I’ll put it on my list and hopefully get to it soon.
Can I just say that it makes me smile to read about you (Tico) washing diapers? (honestly, it’s a bit hard to imagine but that’s awesome!) I can only imagine how fun it is to hear your baby begin to talk…well, sort of saying words.
Marcy , I do all sorts of stuff that would baffle your brain , i make bread , wash diapers, change diapers ,make granola , feed the dog , kick the cat ,etc, etc … I don’t feed the little girl , i think thats out of my league … ANYWAYZZZ
Kirk , Long time no nothin!!! Write man!! Hey do you remember the study that Cyrill Hawkins gave at “Bet Whatever it was “(Paul and Tracy’s church ) that was on Leviticus . You should dig up your notes . Hey i got some book you might wanna read . Really fun Nonfiction !!
