5 queer & quirky products that make me chuckle

what can I say, we were out on a night walk/play in the park/when dogs attack adventure only to return to a hungry Eddy who then proceeded to get into a discussion with the girls of the house on male/female relationships here in Costa Rica, etc. read: I almost forgot to post again (if you weren’t paying attention, I’m making it an exercise to try to post every day in February).

so I give you some random products I’ve pinned in the past because I found them humorous. maybe you will, too!

4 votes for Costa Rican haircuts.

one of the things on our pre-Costa Rica to do list was getting haircuts all around. that ended up, however, as one of the things that we shoved off.

now I’m glad we did.

today we paid $16 for the two kids + Mr. D.

I made a promise to a friend/s of mine that I wouldn’t drastically cut my hair unless they were with me. I kinda considered the possibility of letting them be with me via skype, but over all I have actually decided in the last 4 months or so that I don’t really want to cut my hair right now. I’ve actually been feeling a lot less frumpy since I replaced my fall back ponytail with a fall back up-do. it’s a good thing I figured that out early on into our trip, too, since I don’t want to spend a bunch of money on product to make my hair behave when it’s down. I thought gel was gel was gel, but no. the cheap stuff I bought when we got here either evaporates in 10 minutes or just looks at my hair and laughs. does nothing. seriously, not exaggerating.

so all of my hair is just staying put for now.

Maverick’s hair had gotten past the point of needing to be cut months ago, but we were just used to it – I mean we see him every day and all. so he was high due.

we weren’t really cracked up about Maeve cutting her hair, it was really long and gorgeous. but she really wanted to, so we let her. I already miss it a lot.

Mr. D’s hair had needed to be in a ponytail for a long time and he was just ready for a cut.

these are the much-anticipated results (starting off with Mr. D styling Maeve’s hair the other day):

why I watch “the Bachelor”

I realize that the Bachelor family of shows can be a little controversial. certainly it doesn’t have the best track record for the couples it spits out a few times each year, however, there are obviously those who have survived the relationship gauntlet and lived to tell about it.

I would never sit around just watching these shows, nor any other show really – I always work or exercise with the shows in the background, but I do watch them and here is why:

if you’ve watched our love story you would probably be able to guess that I don’t really agree with the concept of the show, but I didn’t always feel completely unlike a contestant trying to win Mr. D’s heart :) (my mode of action was a lot more like sitting back waiting for God to finish writing the story than to actually compete, but hey, Mr. D needed a challenge for a change)

being fascinated by relationships and interactions in general, I find the Bachelor/ette to be an interesting study in human nature and relationship dynamics.

I enjoy trying to guess which parts of the show are real and which parts are set up, what kinds of leading questions they ask in the interviews to get the participants to say what they want them to say, which people are being their true selves, which ones have another agenda, what kinds of emotional problems and hangups they have, which things are edited unfairly, etc.

basically I’m analyzing the psychological states of everyone while I’m watching.

the dates, locations, and experiences from the Bachelor are obviously a lot more fairytale and a lot less real life, but the emotions and the way the contestants handle their emotions are real.

love can often feel like a bit of a war zone and I don’t feel like the way that it plays out on the Bachelor stage is completely untrue to what is often found in real life.

I’m pretty thankful, however, that it was God, not a team of reality show writers, who wrote our love story :)

had I started writing this earlier I would have waxed more wordy with my thoughts on all of it, but my deadline for myself is midnight, so this is all she wrote.

do you watch the Bachelor? why or why not? you can answer even if your name is Ileen :)

we barely made it, but we still have half an hour of Valentine’s Day 2012 left, so on the 10th anniversary of our first kiss I give you our love story.
have a minute, or 2, or maybe a few more? :)

believe it or not, we did leave out some details!

thanks again to Krista for videoing and editing these for us! (youtube annotations by me :) )

$16.30 souvenirs [bracelet/ring for Tina, 8 postcards for Maeve, and something for a friend]

Total: $149.36

yeah, these are not impressive totals again, but maybe I should start tracking the food cost separately.

January 9-14 $191.62
January 15-21 $39.62
January 22-28 $112.56
January 29-February 4 $78.75
Food Total: $422.55

yeah, still not liking that at all. well have to see how much we can stretch some of that stuff, but we won’t really know till it’s gone, which will probably be when we leave or not long before.

in other food news, I just had something tonight that if you ever come across you should definitely not hesitate to score some for yourself. Maverick somehow got ahold of the bag and kept growling when other people tried to get some out. Tronaditas – go find some.

I even found a little commercial, haha.
