get back on the horse…

Sometimes there are a myriad of reasons not to post, so you just have to bite the bullet and get back in the game… speaking of games, last night there was a bit of mourning going on – though we agreed that in the grand scope of things… ya know.

Too much has happened since the last update – haha. So I’ll just say that we had a great holiday time and it was refreshing… we spent a couple of days with David’s parents and bro’s family and also got in some time with extended family, which was cool – lots of little kids running around. We were also surprised with some baby gifts and that was awesome! Baby D’s room is actually usable now, thanks to a visit from Kirk & Karla, which forced us to make a place for them to sleep :-) there is still plenty of crap that we need to go through, but the baby has its own little corner of stuff now. We did have a really fun time with the Kauffman’s, too!

Now it looks like we’re finally going to get a little REACH team reunion (mine) at the end of the month! Rather amazing, considering we’ve been trying for about five months to find a time that would work for everyone. I think it helps that they want to see how fat I am. (just kidding) Most of the time I actually don’t feel too bad, but sometimes I feel like my stomach is going to explode :-) I also seem to have a somewhat mild case of Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction, which showed up about a month ago. The first two days I could hardly move one of my legs. Yay. David often has to help me turn over in bed.

Notice how the subject keeps shifting? I guess it’s just getting closer.

Our car is being a butt recently. We had to borrow Nathaniel’s to go to OH cause we weren’t sure what was wrong with ours. We’ve already paid a pretty penny towards the problem with no resolution. C’est la vie, eh?

there are some pictures that should be posted, but, well, don’t feel like it right now… that was part of the procrastination factor.

I’ll leave you with one more baby thing – we’re having a shower on Saturday… wow.

fat mama’s thoughts on canned hummus and bombs

These two boys I know have gotten into the habit of blowing things up after work… you might recognize them, too. (whoops, I just realized that David was the one taking the pictures, so you won’t see him)

The other day, David and I were very hungry. David remembered that there was a Mediterranean market that we had not been to yet, so we called Karla to find out where it was and ventured over. Much to our horror we couldn’t find any hummus. When we asked the guy in charge he directed us to some cans with “hummus” in them. We contemplated our bravery level and realized that, though low, it was no match for our hunger level, and so proceeded to buy two cans of the suspicious stuff. To supplement our little meal we also purchased cucumber pickles and pickled eggplants with, of course, pita. We then made our way to a McDonald’s parking lot and tasted our ambivalent food. Yep, that’s pretty much how we felt about it. Can’t say I’d recommend canned hummus. Oh, I didn’t try the eggplant that night, cause I wasn’t sure how it’d agree with me at the time. I did last night, however, and the only way I can think to describe it is a small nugget of canned red beet garnished with spicy brown mustard. That’s how pickled eggplants taste to me. Not bad.

Good news! Some very dear friends of ours are going to be gracing us with their presence in precisely 5 days :-) that’s right, Kirky & Karla are “stopping by” on their way to the big north land. If you hear a lot of laughter around that time, you’ll know why. (cause they look funny)

In about 7 days we are apparently traveling to OH to spend Christmas with the Dillers… I say apparently because we are still waiting to hear if we will be able to stay with Reuben’s or not (hint, hint :-) ) We are really looking forward to seeing little (or as the case may be, not so little anymore) Ethan! Oh yeah, and the others, too… :-)

Yep, feeling fat. No new pictures right now, though.

random questions

I suppose it’s been sufficiently long enough that’s it’s time to post again. Can you say busy? You know, time of year, yada yada. A number of random things of interest have happened since last update, but I don’t know if I’ll remember them. That, my friends, is why you should post every couple of days. I also thought of some questions. Here are a few:

What is up with all the gigantic air snowmen??? Do people get to this time of year and think “wow, I have too much money! What can I do to get rid of some? Oh, how about one of those gigantic air snowmen?! I bet those cost some money to keep up, and I didn’t spend enough on my air ghost at Halloween!” and some of them have the audacity to hold little signs that say “let it snow!”, not to mention all the other paraphernalia I see around that say things like “welcome frosty!” and stuff… are these people REALLY that big of fans of snow??? Do these people not drive cars? Well, congratulations to them for getting into the season, I guess. I need to make my own line. It would say things like “come on, Mr. Sun, you can do it!” “You’re only as cold as you feel” “The only good thing about winter is that fewer people forget to put all of their clothes on when out in public.” Yep, no one steal that last one – it’s going to be on one of my t-shirts someday.

What are the road people thinking? David and I realized while dodging deer that there are no deer crossing signs on our road at all. There should probably be one every mile or so. They should even make a more graphic sign especially for our road, perhaps of a deer attacking a car… Sonya, why don’t you get right on that?

I guess that’s probably enough deep questions for you to ponder for now. In other news, as you may have noticed in comments on the last post, aunt Kimberley (Kiki to Baby D?) has already gone to the trouble of thinking of plenty of names for our poor child so that we don’t have to. Whew, glad to get that out of the way.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, by the way. Four days of sleeping in!!! Good food, though I’m happy to say that we did not gorge ourselves. And I only gained 2.5 pounds in the last month as opposed to the more like 8 that mom’s scale was scaring me with. I’ve been wanting sweet stuff more in the last two months, though, don’t know what’s up with that. Ah well.

Ok, my little brain train has definitely gone around the tracks and off into the distance now, I lost it. I think it’s time to get back to work… (of which we are INSANELY swamped!!!!!!!! I wish people could spread out their demands a bit. But no. Everything has to be done at the same time and it all has to be at the end of the year where holidays tend to congregate. Must be one of Murphy’s laws.)

good news

Our marriage gets an A+, we get to take in some of the year’s best game, and our baby looks like a baby. The conference this weekend was lots of fun, though tiring! We didn’t really learn anything new, amazingly enough, which simply means that God has blessed us so much by helping us to build a great foundation over these couple of years. He’s lead us to put some great things in process and we don’t expect it just to work without, well, WORK! :-) Good stuff.

The biggest decision that we made over the weekend was to finally get our butts in gear and have monthly business meetings. It’s the kind of thing where you’re like DUH, but never get around to it. Well, we’re pretty good at procrastinating, so David had the brilliant idea to do supper on the business and that way we’ll actually look forward to it and get it done. Like I said, duh. Oh yeah, also the kind of thing where you finally get sick enough of something that you take the next step… so we actually did it tonight – do you have any concept of how much healthier Subway is than say, McDonald’s??? Scarily so. We’re just glad they started putting all the nutrition info out there for us to make more informed decisions. Fresh was the name of the game tonight and I’m happy to say that the 12 inches I ate were under 600 calories. So, still plenty of calories, but TWELVE INCHES and I was able to get happily full. Yuuuuuuum. Also, I got a really great love letter out of the weekend :-)

When we decided which weekend to go to the conference we didn’t think of looking at the game schedule. Fortunately, class was out early enough on Saturday to catch more than half of the big game! I captured a little of the team spirit right here.

Today we went in for another ultrasound because Baby D was being feisty last time and wouldn’t let them get the measurements of the heart that they needed. Well, this u/s tech was so much more interactive than the one we had last time and we got to watch her do all the measurements and stuff, plus she captured a profile pic for us which I really missed last time! A little more baby-like. The baby cooperated very nicely this time and let her get what she needed. And look, it likes to sleep how I often do, which I’ve also seen my mom doing many times – its hand tucked under its chin – awwww :-)

early to bed…

…we have the early to rise thing down pretty well most days, but last night I think we definitely made a record early to bed. David said he was pretty tired on the way home but we were also both pretty hungry. I made us some food and we ate and then he wondered what I wanted to do, to which I said “Something productive”. He was still tired, though, and didn’t like the sound of that. I asked him what he wanted to do, then, play computer? And he said no, that he would feel bad. So I asked him if he just wanted to go to bed. He sat there a minute and then agreed. This is when I knew he was really tired. So we were falling asleep around six last night. I wasn’t really feeling tired, but somehow I managed to still be asleep before David. The night before we had only gotten five hours of sleep, which isn’t completely abnormal for us, though we try to get eight. Well, last night we got about eleven, so I guess it just evened out.

David has this problem. Somehow actors sometimes end up in his dreams. Sometimes from movies, but mostly just tv show people cause we would watch them more often over time (even this is not common, fortunately) See, we’ve been watching The Office more recently, and a while back he dreamt that Ryan the temp and he were in some random house and that there was a cat there which Ryan walked up to and started kicking along. David thought this was kind of funny. Last night Toby showed up in his dream and it was no laughing matter apparently. He opened a door and there I was hugging and kissing Toby. Well, this just made David spitting mad. Literally. He was yelling and bawling the guy out all over the place and was so emphatic about it that spit was flying around. :-) I personally found this pretty funny when he was telling me about it. David was not talking to me for a while after that in his dream. I guess we resolved it in the end, though, thank goodness! Acting people really don’t ever find their way into my dreams, and I’m grateful for that. If I ever have a dream with David doing something less than acceptable I think it has always been with people that we don’t know. I get no less mad at him, but it’s better somehow.

David has also been watching LOTR off and on recently. I have a confession: I think I fell asleep in every one of those movies the first time through. It didn’t help that I always watched them at stupid times of day, like midnight, but still. Since he’s been going through them again and I was strongly opposed to it myself, I figured out what my real beef with them is now. Frodo. Is there actually anyone out there that doesn’t want to smack his little head off?! If the movies did not contain him at all I would be able to stand them. As it is, David has been fastforwarding the parts with him in them, cause he hates him, too :-) Seriously, when they were making the movie why didn’t someone tell him, look man, you are really over-acting. You need to tone it down cause it’s just getting cheesy and people are NOT going to like you OR want you to win. Melodrama and I are not friends. This means that I can not stand to look at Frodo at all. I want to poke those forlorn, little eyes out, especially as he has one expression for the whole trilogy – pitiful. So there you are. I am not against this classic, just one actor.

Hey guess what?! Today we are going to a marriage conference. This means we get away for the weekend and get to stay in a hotel. Yay! Not free, but oh well. We are looking forward to it.
