We’ve noticed in our own lives that what usually happens is one of two things.
What causes us to get overwhelmed is imagining a perfect version of our end goal with all the bells and whistles. It’s discouraging to think of how much work should go into that, when we feel like just trying to keep up with everything that’s expected of us in daily life is already too much.
At the same time, working up the courage to attempt going from 0 to 60 is likely to end up in a crash and burn, which will probably intimidate us from trying again for a long while.
It’s probably obvious the only other option between doing nothing and trying to do everything is to do a bit at a time, however, if you’re anything like us, that still isn’t too helpful.
While the first step to conquer is purging the excess, this intermediate step of simplifying is all about stripping things down to the nuts and bolts so you can build them back up into what you really want in your life.
There’s a term in business called minimum viable product (MVP – not to be confused with sports). Basically, smart companies, don’t wait to try to get it perfect. They understand that you have to start somewhere, and bells and whistles come later after you’ve already proved your concept.
Right now it’s time to stop trying so hard.
