    • I edited out your stories to include in a future Girl Talk post, Angie, unless you just want to share them here, in which case, I’ll put them back :)

  3. Hahaha! I can relate and oh boy what a fear right? I hate having my period and it is always a bloody massacre mess! I mean, how does one really use the tampons and take it out without getting all bloody? lol. This is great. I look forward to this girls club. :)

    • yes, seriously, lots of people feel like tampons are so much better than pads, but really, there is no GREAT period solution – the mess happens! although, I think the Diva cup is probably my favorite…

  4. Too funny!! Having lived in both Costa Rica and then Peru, I can totally relate to the TP not going in the toilet, even when you want to put it there the most!! Love it!

    • yeah, I lived for a year and a half putting the TP in the trashcan even in our home when my family lived in China, and somehow I don’t remember the period part of it! though it’s kind of a toss up whether crap or blood is worse… I’m thinking maybe crap.

  6. Ugh thank you so very much for writing this! Seriously. I’m currently on mine, and I was just lamenting the fact bitching to my husband that I should be used to the mess, the horrible feeling of waking up and having that lovely dripping feeling as you carefully waddle to the bathroom. JUST UGH. So thank you very very much for posting this and not making me feel like such a dang pariah for not enjoying this blessed time of the month or not having that feeling of ‘it’s really just a thing that happens’. 13 odd years later of having it I’m still not about it.

    • yeah…………………. there’s really nothing fun about it, LOL! and then Always(?) has the insane nerve to come up with the slogan “Have a happy period” um, seriously? whose idea was that, a man’s?!

  7. Bah ha ha, love this, bowling ball crotch feeling. such a good description. And two tampons because you are the momma of two, girl if I followed that approach… well I shutter to even think, which is why I just stopped using them all together. I seem to remember a really funny story involving my son inventing something with tampons and ALMOST, bringing said invention to school. Trying to think of more funny girl stories. I have lots of pee my pants stories. Seriously, such a great idea. LOVE IT!

    • I personally really like the Diva Cup, but I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to take it along on the trip. I think futuristic-ly I would! definitely email me your stories, I bet you have lots!

  9. Man. I rarely wear tampons to begin with. I’m an old fashioned pad kinda girl. Well, not old fashioned. I use ultra thin.

But I have a leakage horror story. I was in a yoga class, and I was on my back when I felt a GUSH. When we were back to seated, I snuck a glance and sure enough, not only had I leaked through my underwear and pants, but IT WAS ALSO ON MY MAT.

    It was awful.

So yeah. I hate hate hate those types of accidents!!

I can’t even imagine putting in two tampons. One is uncomfortable enough for me. :( Tiny vagina = not much fun.

    • I used to always start wearing a pad all the time around when I thought my period would start just so that I hopefully didn’t run into any trouble like that, but sheesh, somehow I lost my foresight over the years, lol

  10. OH and I remember the time my period started when I was on Tower of Terror at Disney World. True story. Adam was taking video to show Aidan, and just about everyone in our party had to pee. I didn’t. Adam said “And we all have to pee, Aidan.” I went “I don’t gotta pee.” At the exact moment, mother nature came. And all I could think was “Wow. I’m stuck on this ride with NO WAY OUT and my period just started and this ride is all gravity defying and shit…”

I never ran so fast to the bathroom after a ride in my life.

    • that is the WORST feeling, being stuck! and of course it’s ALL you can think about and can’t figure out a way to the bathroom fast enough! I definitely think women have it harder…………

  11. HILARIOUS!!! I mean i know it wasnt to YOU at the time!! but we have all been there girl!! i actually witnessed a girl in high school, with a skirt on, get up and ask to go to the bathroom and there was blood all over the back of her skirt. i felt sooo horrible for her… not fun!

    • oh my word, worst nightmare, POOR GIRL! sometimes there is just NO good way to get out of a situation other than bear the humiliation :(

@ronnie i understand, tiny vagina here too, but also it’s a slightly different situation for me because i literally cannot extend my arms or stand up to use tampons down there so ive always used pads.

@ticotina…LOL I KNOW right, “have a happy period” are they crazy!? what an awkward event for you! i am so sorry!!

I have SMA, spinal muscle atrophy and with limited physical mobility there’s no way im gonna have one of my caregivers inserting or taking out a tampon for me with my legs up in the air or open, or something awkward while sitting on the toilet! lol, no way! I’ll get by w/the thin maxi pads!

thanks for the girl talk! :)

    britt May 25, 2012 at 6:41 pm #
    • oh goodness, that is quite a funny picture you painted of having your caregivers helping you! LOL, I would totally stick with pads also :)

      ticotina May 29, 2012 at 11:07 pm #
  13. I’ve been lucky in the fact that it’s been ages since I’ve actually had an accident of any sort… but when I was younger I was always one of those people who was blissfully unaware of what my cycle was so I was constantly getting caught without pads or tampons handy and having red undies as a result.

I’ve been a fanatic DivaCup user for the past six years (geez… has it been that long already?!) and most of my accidents tend to happen away from my body… like, accidentally dropping it in the toilet or accidentally getting blood on the toilet seat and not noticing until my partner’s all, “WHAT THE HECK DID YOU KILL IN HERE!?”

    nikkiana May 26, 2012 at 4:20 pm #
    • hahahahaha, yeah I’m totally always SO careful with that, it can be a tiny bit tricky! do you sterilize it every time? I am a tiny bit weirded out about putting it in a pan, so that’s one thing that causes me not to use it as much as I’d really like to…

      ticotina May 29, 2012 at 11:06 pm #
      • I sterilize at the end of every cycle. It was kinda weird to throw it into a pan to boil it at first…. but I’ve mostly gotten over that and it’s just part of monthly life now.
