good news

Our marriage gets an A+, we get to take in some of the year’s best game, and our baby looks like a baby. The conference this weekend was lots of fun, though tiring! We didn’t really learn anything new, amazingly enough, which simply means that God has blessed us so much by helping us to build a great foundation over these couple of years. He’s lead us to put some great things in process and we don’t expect it just to work without, well, WORK! :-) Good stuff.

The biggest decision that we made over the weekend was to finally get our butts in gear and have monthly business meetings. It’s the kind of thing where you’re like DUH, but never get around to it. Well, we’re pretty good at procrastinating, so David had the brilliant idea to do supper on the business and that way we’ll actually look forward to it and get it done. Like I said, duh. Oh yeah, also the kind of thing where you finally get sick enough of something that you take the next step… so we actually did it tonight – do you have any concept of how much healthier Subway is than say, McDonald’s??? Scarily so. We’re just glad they started putting all the nutrition info out there for us to make more informed decisions. Fresh was the name of the game tonight and I’m happy to say that the 12 inches I ate were under 600 calories. So, still plenty of calories, but TWELVE INCHES and I was able to get happily full. Yuuuuuuum. Also, I got a really great love letter out of the weekend :-)

When we decided which weekend to go to the conference we didn’t think of looking at the game schedule. Fortunately, class was out early enough on Saturday to catch more than half of the big game! I captured a little of the team spirit right here.

Today we went in for another ultrasound because Baby D was being feisty last time and wouldn’t let them get the measurements of the heart that they needed. Well, this u/s tech was so much more interactive than the one we had last time and we got to watch her do all the measurements and stuff, plus she captured a profile pic for us which I really missed last time! A little more baby-like. The baby cooperated very nicely this time and let her get what she needed. And look, it likes to sleep how I often do, which I’ve also seen my mom doing many times – its hand tucked under its chin – awwww :-)

early to bed…

…we have the early to rise thing down pretty well most days, but last night I think we definitely made a record early to bed. David said he was pretty tired on the way home but we were also both pretty hungry. I made us some food and we ate and then he wondered what I wanted to do, to which I said “Something productive”. He was still tired, though, and didn’t like the sound of that. I asked him what he wanted to do, then, play computer? And he said no, that he would feel bad. So I asked him if he just wanted to go to bed. He sat there a minute and then agreed. This is when I knew he was really tired. So we were falling asleep around six last night. I wasn’t really feeling tired, but somehow I managed to still be asleep before David. The night before we had only gotten five hours of sleep, which isn’t completely abnormal for us, though we try to get eight. Well, last night we got about eleven, so I guess it just evened out.

David has this problem. Somehow actors sometimes end up in his dreams. Sometimes from movies, but mostly just tv show people cause we would watch them more often over time (even this is not common, fortunately) See, we’ve been watching The Office more recently, and a while back he dreamt that Ryan the temp and he were in some random house and that there was a cat there which Ryan walked up to and started kicking along. David thought this was kind of funny. Last night Toby showed up in his dream and it was no laughing matter apparently. He opened a door and there I was hugging and kissing Toby. Well, this just made David spitting mad. Literally. He was yelling and bawling the guy out all over the place and was so emphatic about it that spit was flying around. :-) I personally found this pretty funny when he was telling me about it. David was not talking to me for a while after that in his dream. I guess we resolved it in the end, though, thank goodness! Acting people really don’t ever find their way into my dreams, and I’m grateful for that. If I ever have a dream with David doing something less than acceptable I think it has always been with people that we don’t know. I get no less mad at him, but it’s better somehow.

David has also been watching LOTR off and on recently. I have a confession: I think I fell asleep in every one of those movies the first time through. It didn’t help that I always watched them at stupid times of day, like midnight, but still. Since he’s been going through them again and I was strongly opposed to it myself, I figured out what my real beef with them is now. Frodo. Is there actually anyone out there that doesn’t want to smack his little head off?! If the movies did not contain him at all I would be able to stand them. As it is, David has been fastforwarding the parts with him in them, cause he hates him, too :-) Seriously, when they were making the movie why didn’t someone tell him, look man, you are really over-acting. You need to tone it down cause it’s just getting cheesy and people are NOT going to like you OR want you to win. Melodrama and I are not friends. This means that I can not stand to look at Frodo at all. I want to poke those forlorn, little eyes out, especially as he has one expression for the whole trilogy – pitiful. So there you are. I am not against this classic, just one actor.

Hey guess what?! Today we are going to a marriage conference. This means we get away for the weekend and get to stay in a hotel. Yay! Not free, but oh well. We are looking forward to it.

one without a title

So we’ve continued to (slowly) work on our apartment… it’s getting further along… kind of. David is currently yelling at the computer while trying to get different browsers to accept a website. I wish they could all just get along :-) Not long ago, though, he took advantage of the decent weather and lovingly painted some stuff for me!

Anyway, that’s part of the reason our apartment is a bit stalled right now – other stuff getting in the way. I guess some of the “other stuff” has been our motivation, too. On one hand, though, I am fine with it because I want something to still be kind of “new” when Baby D gets here. On the other, probably abnormally large hand, however, it’s not particularly inspiring living in a mess. There are also two articles of clothing that I am currently missing and that is a source of angst for me. Ok, angst is probably not the best application in this case, though when a pregnant woman can’t find her clothes it could lead to anxiety I suppose. Besides, having a pregger brain, for me, means having a lot of trouble thinking of the right word and also remembering how to spell… that has certainly been a source of irritation and frustration – it forces me to resort to using long, drawn-out descriptions where a simple word would suffice (ie. can you put this in the… you know… the big, cold thing where we keep food! Ok, generally I haven’t forgotten such common words, but even so, the concept remains.)

Speaking of clothes and apartments, I did a little bit of clothes sorting tonight (“a little bit” being no exaggeration) I am trying some of the things on as I sort because, well, you never know. This shirt used to fit, believe it or not! Now, however, I am instantly reminded of a froggy – I expect a long tongue to come darting out at any moment. Maybe I am the only one who sees this. Either way, I don’t think I’ll be wearing this shirt any time soon. I thought I would be getting rid of a whole lot more stuff, but I keep hoping I might be able to fit back into it again. Now THERE’S a real cause of angst!!! As a side note, I feel excruciatingly short when looking at myself in these pictures. I don’t think a frog belly does much for lengthening the torso…

I think it looks like time to find some supper.

IE7 is so horrible there are not words…

I had downloaded the IE7 beta a couple of months ago to try out and was appalled by the insane number of major bugs that I found. I tortured myself with it for a day or two and then David undid that insanity and put me out of my misery. Well I decided to try it again last night because it’s being released again this month, and oh my word. I don’t think they fixed even one thing!!!!! I seriously cannot comprehend how stupid it is. I’m horrified. We were getting all set to put up a new version of our blog and now it looks like that might be on hold. Amazing. How someone can even create something this crappy is beyond me!

In other news, we saw Baby D for the first time one week ago today. The poor dear was looking a little alienesque in the face, but had some nice cute hands and feet! You may see the child here, though I see some of you already have.

I’m not going to write anything else, I’m too mad at IE. Firefox and Opera it is I guess, though I’m not too happy with them either. Come ON people.

warning: many things happened and this is as short as I could make it

Would you believe I started making the list of what I would write in this post while stuck in the bathroom in El Paso? Let me back up a bit…

My hands have been tied from posting in the last week or so because of needing to reach a “proper number” of comments on the last post. So there have been many things happening which have gone unreported. Many funny things, unfortunately, and ones which I’m sure I can’t remember. On the other hand, all of last week felt like one really, really, really, really, REALLY long day. So I shouldn’t have posted anyway.

The reason for the long day was that we were preparing for a financial seminar that we gave for David’s parent’s church in El Paso this weekend. From scratch. In Spanish. Five hours worth. Since it was the first such endeavor we embarked upon, I tried, rather successfully I think, to not be too perfectionist about it! (the only reasons I was successful were the time constraint and the fact that David had to do the actual speaking part :-) ) It was my job to prepare all the materials/outline/etc. and I must admit that was quite fun, though sometimes stressful… David and I apparently work quite well together in that I strongly prefer preparation to actual presenting, and his sentiment is such that he would have hated the prep. (The beauty of one strikes again!) We already knew this from other things, but it was made exceptionally clear here. When the time came to leave for the airport we still had some papers to punch for insertion into folders, some card thingies to cut, two powerpoints to translate, and an unfinished outline. (Hmmm, this doesn’t sound too good for me, considering that I was the prep person… but if you only knew all that I DID do!) We managed to punch those papers (with only two being turned the wrong direction) right before rushing out the door to the airport, and I was able to cut up all the card thingies on the way there – my grandma all the while marveling at my skill in precision, haha. So we were left with translation and outline issues, oh yeah and folder assembly. After dropping us off to get checked in, mom rushed to get us some supper, which we thoroughly enjoyed (all except the drinks, which were taken off our hands by a security guard) after managing to be the last two people on the plane. We were pretty tired when we arrived at almost 11 bells, but I was just glad to be me after seeing the most pregnant lady I have ever seen in my life – seriously, it was an obvious struggle for her just to walk, she had to kind of swing her stomach with every step and if she would have gotten up too much speed (probably impossible) I think the momentum of it would have knocked her over.

The seminar the next day went well – David did it, so duh. :-) oh wait. One slight hitch. Upon arriving to the Dillers’ house we were going to go over something on our lappy, but the computer bag failed to produce the power cord. The lappy’s battery was more than dead – didn’t know that was possible? It is. A sad state of affairs that the power cord wasn’t long enough to reach from Wellman to El Paso. No one knows why it decided to stay behind… So, with Christina hoping that God would decide to transport it overnight, we went to bed. Not only did He NOT do that, but He also didn’t magically charge the battery either. He did give us a great friend, Josh, who thought of another friend who had just gotten a Dell (dude!), and who allowed our great friend, Josh, to come over to his house early on a Saturday morning to borrow the power source. Whew! Did I mention that God also tried to tell me to upload all the pertinent stuff to our server and/or put it all on a flash drive in case of such events? (At least I can’t imagine why satan would have wanted to help us out that way) and that God also tried to tell David to bring our other power cord when he saw it while we were packing? Yeah, He did.

There was a lady at the seminar who told me that we were having a girl because of the way I was carrying. I was all set to believe that, since she was the only one who had offered up a guess yet at this point, but then it turned out she was a little tetched in the head, as she proceeded to go off on very random subjects while David was trying to talk, and almost got in a cat fight with another lady there… er… iiiiinteresting.

When the seminar was over we were freeeeeee! So after relaxing for a while, we were going out to eat. I went into the bathroom to get ready and David came in, too, to pee. When we were done with our respective tasks we expected to walk out the door and leave. THAT was not to be! The door wasn’t the slightest bit interested in opening. Fortunately I had my cell phone with me and called the house phone, which Dave answered. With much humor he came to try to rescue us. I don’t know how long it took, but it was a process, let me tell you! After completely breaking the doorknob assembly and passing small tools back and forth through the hole, we had to open the window to receive some larger tools with which David took the door off its ever-loving hinges! Take that, rebellious door!!!

I also must mention (it was on my list that I made in the bathroom) that by some stroke of luck some of our baggage arrived soaked. I don’t know if it fell in a lake, but the effects were the same. Sadly, that included our vitamins. Particularly troubling, my prenatals. They turned black!? I guess we know who to sue if our kid comes out in less than pristine condition. (oh, I mean the airline – I didn’t ingest the black vitamins)

We had a great time in El Paso and did other fun stuff, including but not limited to: eating a bunch of really great food, eating some of Josh’s ice cream with hard shell, sleeping, and watching stuff. Here’s some other stuff we did, too!

Oh, we did make it back safe and sound, and as soon as someone said the word “cold”, I got one. Ugh.
