Happy New Year!!!

So David actually rigged up a cool little lamp for me to use in the night to find Maeve’s paci if she needed assistance, but I haven’t had to use it yet. It’s lighter in our room than I thought, for one thing, but she managed to keep it pretty close to her the last two nights. Sometimes she grabs it out of her mouth and throws it… that makes it a little harder. (she wants it again later)

anyway, David’s parents are coming tonight. I think they’ll make it here before the actual new year, not sure… we’re having wonderful carne asada tonight, mmmmmmmmmm! I haven’t had it since we made it when Kauffman’s visited us like two years ago? Or something. And before that, not since Cali. We shall see if it is as good here :-)

On Saturday Frank & Ani and family took us to this awesome little development thing on the side of a mountain. It’s really just impossible to describe with words, and I guess David didn’t take any pictures of the actual houses, so you’ll just have to come and see for yourselves. We then went to a fish restaurant that was pretty good, but by that time Maeve was not impressed with being confined in small spaces (carseat and then highchair). Anyway, we posted a few new pictures: maeve, costa rica, us, stuff we do, friends, and family Happy 2008 wow!

this one comes after the last one

I wanted to write a lot of stuff, but alas, time with the use of two hands is usually spent working… though actually, when I think of all the good stuff I want to relay, it’s usually while sitting in the back of a car staring out the window, or on one of our walks, neither of which generally includes a computer. I thought I should start carrying around a notebook for this very reason. I need to acquire a small one, though. I love new notebooks. A lot. I wouldn’t marry them exactly, but I really, really like them. I’ve been thinking,(to myself, that is) with everyone wanting so much for me to like Costa Rica and all, I really am not that hard to please, I don’t think! I’m not very easily impressed, though. But I think I’m getting more “impressable” over time. I think because I’m deciding to be. How many times can I say “I”, sheesh.

We visited a volcano yesterday. The area looked pretty cool, but on one hand, the volcano wasn’t that impressive, cause it hasn’t erupted for like 50 years. Hehe, there you see? Not that easily impressed. It was fun, though. I was reminded how much I hate seeing abandoned buildings, however. I seriously have this major aversion to it. It always just seems like such a great waste, and I want so badly to “unwaste” it. And I am always very curious as to the story behind these wasted buildings. I find these little details about people so interesting – the things that make them tick. David has such a fascination with birds, which I’m sure he picked up from his parents and grandparents. I definitely don’t have a fascination with them, however. See, we’re different.

anyway, I think it was also yesterday that when we were walking home from buying our breakfast bread we came across a man walking down the sidewalk, peeing as he went. It’s one thing to stop on the side and pee into a bush or… SOMEthing, but to just pee right where you’re walking, WHILE you’re walking, seems a little shortsighted to me. Maybe that’s just cause I’m part of the elite “don’t-pee-on-your-shoes” club. Hard to say. Either way, thankfully he was walking east to our north, (directions used solely for explanation purposes, no idea what the technical directions were) so we didn’t get a full-on view. I made sure to glance at the sidewalk when we walked by where he had just been, though, and yep, random pee trail. More like, random pee puddle trail. He must have drunk a lot.

David finally managed to get a picture of my aforementioned big-headed, fat pedestrian crossing sign. I don’t have it right here at the moment, but stay tuned! David pointed out, in his truly random laugh generating form, that it was actually probably a “beware of fat tourists crossing” sign. And it could be strangely true, as I’ve seen other normal signs scattered throughout. If only it wasn’t so fitting.

Maeve is currently snoring cutely away… hers are definitely the only snores I find cute. When David snores I sometimes try to think that I’m just thankful that he is right there beside me, snoring or not. But I usually end up poking him eventually all the same. Maeve gets to sleep in her new little (big) bed tonight. I anticipate getting less sleep than normal, cause I’m sure she’ll be losing her pacifier, and I don’t have much hope of finding it either, in that huge space. I’d love to use one of those paci strings, if we had one, and if it was really a good idea to put a string in bed with a baby. I actually found the perfect solution to this dilemma when I was doing all my research while pregnant with her, but I never got one, and really didn’t need it until now. Oh blah.

Well, it took us a good year and a half to get around to it, but we’re finally officially investors. Ugh. We’re such procrastinators. Our GOK (God Only Knows) fund percentage keeps dropping, which makes us want to move it (it’s just a savings account) but we really like the bank that it’s in, cause they’re all over – there’s even one here.

so little did I know that we live only a few blocks from souvenirland, Costa Rica!!! So funny. I looooooooove walking around this place! This morning we went out and procured a few things from the farmers market, got a new key made, picked up a package from the Post Office, got some stuff at Jumbo, grabbed some breakfast at a little bakery, and were home before 9:00am. Awesome.

there have been a lot of other things that I’ve wanted to write about, but time has passed as I was sick and then Maeve had a fever. Boooo. Thankfully we are now feeling a lot better, though David is sounding like he might get a cold.

Guess what?! David got on the ball last night and got some pictures put up for all your enjoyment – so this time I’m not making a link, just go to our gallery (see it there on the sidebar?) and there are new pictures in “us”, “costa rica”, and of course “maeve” :-)

She sometimes seems to be jealous if David hugs/kisses me, like we’re ignoring her or something. The other day I was holding her and David gave me a quick kiss and pretty soon we heard little kissing noises mimicking us. There is a wallpaper border thing that goes around the middle of our room and it isn’t very tightly glued, so we don’t let her pick on it, (which she does from our bed). She is rather sneaky about trying to pick at it, but we always tell her nono and stop her from doing it. Well, she now often will move her hand towards it and then stop midway, saying something that sounds like nono and then look at us. I think she merely finds it interesting, because she definitely isn’t cured from touching it.
