We’ll be the first to admit that we’re a little weird.
But for the most part we’re just a pretty ordinary family who started out
with a rather average mindset about how to do life.
Where We Came From
Thankfully, only 4 months into our marriage, we got a wake up call that started a 10-year-long journey toward a drastically different mindset. We discovered hope that our dreams (those “oh wouldn’t it be nice if… maybe someday” dreams that we usually don’t even let ourselves fully realize) were actually possible. What awakened our hope and started this journey? It was Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, which we attended through our church.
We were so blessed by the “live like no one else so that later you can live like no one else” way of thinking and freedom it brought to our life that we went on to become certified financial counselors through Dave’s program, desiring to spread some of that hope to others.
As we continued to learn and grow over the years, working our way toward the type of life we believed we were meant to live, the going so often felt agonizingly slow. I lost count of the number of pep talks I had to give David as he drudged through a day job he hated until a change of position for the last 2 of his 8 years there.
Truthfully, as we look back now, I have no idea how we survived. I know that too often we were only just barely hanging on by a shred of God’s grace. At one time or another I experienced almost every physical symptom of stress in the book.
If we knew then what we know now, our journey would have looked very different, and we want to lend you some of our hope for your journey. We want to encourage you, and make it easier for you to do things better, faster, and with less “stupid tax” than we did.
Where We Are Now
Currently, we work together from home full time in web/graphic/identity design. Our mini-me’s are homeschooled with a laid back approach year-round, which contributes to the flexibility of our location independent lifestyle. Also aiding this lifestyle is our small, mortgage-free home and a commitment to frugality and simple living.
Summers are spent mostly in the Midwest, enjoying time with cousins and our home church, with winters split between Costa Rica, El Paso, and Tijuana, visiting extended family and broadening our kids’ horizons with exposure to other cultures. As they get older, we will expand that to many more countries, Lord willing. David has a special place in his heart for Israel, where he worked with a mission team for 15 months, and Christina loves China, where she moved with her family for 18 months as a teenager.
Our life is in a bit of a transition, partly because we’re sincerely pursuing minimalism and working hard to make our lives even more flexible/mobile, and partly because we’re pretty open to exploring new careers and avenues of income. We’re going to be experimenting with developing residual income, and taking you along for the ride.
What You Can Expect Here
Our goal with this site is to challenge you to dream and to renew your hope about what’s possible. There are many excellent books, conferences, and programs out there with pieces of the puzzle – but no one thing is the answer. We aim to take a comprehensive approach to helping you develop the life you desire – the greatness for which you were created. We are working at combining systems and ways of thought into a well-rounded mindset – a complete puzzle, if you will. Learn more here: Living the Best Version of Your Life
We keep it real here because let’s face it, we’re not all models and life is not a movie where everything wraps up into neat little packages in 90 minutes. Plus, laughing is one of our favorite activities. The voice you will most often hear is me, Christina. David chimes in sometimes (hopefully more going forward), but he is always taking pictures for posts and working on the back end of the site.
