If you’re an average family of four, you might generate around 8-10 loads of laundry per week.
In truth, it actually feels like my family creates twice that, although I might be exaggerating.
With some of the top laundry detergents costing around twenty dollars for a 96 load container, it means the average family of four spends roughly $97 a year just on detergent.
This might seem like a pretty small price, but my family of four keeps me constantly washing and sometimes even re-washing clothes due to my own forgetfulness. In my case, it’s very likely that I spend around $120 or more dollars a year on detergent alone.
One of the things you may or may not have seen lately while browsing Facebook or Pinterest, are lots of photos posted by lots of women who are showing off the free samples that they’ve gotten through the mail.
Personally, I’d heard that some companies would send out coupons, but the concept of receiving samples was new to me.
As it turns out, there are lots of sites you can visit to begin receiving things such as free detergent samples.
Where to Find Free Laundry Samples
Of course, not all sites are perfect. There are some offers posted on sites that aren’t actually for getting samples, so it’s important to pay attention and sign up to the right places.
The best sites to look for laundry detergent samples and other items are those that check, as often as possible, for the legitimacy of the offer’s claims.
You definitely don’t want to be giving your home address and other information out to just anyone; you want it to go where it will be safe.
Sites like MrFreeStuff.com, Scamfreesamples.com, and Samplebuddy.com look into every offer they find to assure that it truly is an offer and not a ploy to get your information.
Getting signed up for most of these sites is pretty easy. For the ones I’ve mentioned above, it’s as simple as entering your email address.
From there, you view the emails and choose which offers you’re interested in. Those offers will contain links that lead you to the site in which you do the official ‘signing up’ for the samples, and often times the emails will also let you know any other information that would be required for the free item to be sent to you.
While it might seem daunting, the process is actually rather simple.
It’s also really awesome to have all these sites streamlining offers instead of having to search for them yourself.
Benefits of Getting Free Laundry Samples
Obviously, one of the great things about signing up for samples would be actually receiving the samples.
Laundry detergent samples through these offers can range from powdered detergent, liquid detergent, individual detergent packets (Tide calls them Pods, Gain calls them Flings, etc.), scent boosters, or even the occasional fabric softener.
Signing up for laundry detergent samples gives you the chance to try new detergents without having to dish out hard-earned dough on something that might not work for your family.
With some detergents costing upwards of $15 or more, the idea of just picking up a new and untested detergent can be a little off-putting.
What happens if you discover your new baby has sensitive skin?
Since there are so many detergents to choose from, trying to figure out what will work best for your family is a little overwhelming.
For me personally, scent plays a large role in my choice of detergent.
A detergent that’s currently getting a lot of good feedback for it’s cleaning power is called Persil, which ConsumerReports.com has chosen to be the best-cleaning detergent at the moment.
At the same time, there have been complaints that some users experience a vomit-like smell coming from their garments after washing, while others claim to love the scent.
Having a sample would give you the opportunity to try a brand such as this to determine if the scent and its effects on your skin are tolerable.
Also, if it’s your desire to go more organic and natural with your washing, there are plenty of opportunities for you to receive samples of natural detergents, giving you the option to pick your favorite.
CAUTION: One thing to pay attention to is machine compatibility, as some free detergent samples may be for a high-efficiency washing machine, while your machine is not that style or vice versa.
Should you try laundry samples for yourself?
For me, at the end of the day, it comes down to saving money. Living expenses today are, at times, ridiculous.
We all work very hard for the money we earn, and none of us have the desire to see it go to waste.
If it’s possible to save myself some money by trying a sample and realizing that I don’t like the brand, then it’s more than worth the few minutes it took me to sign up for it.
Also, if using multiple samples throughout the year cuts down on my overall detergent spending, then that’s definitely a plus as well!
